X Launches Community Notes Experiment to Identify Broadly Appealing Posts
Elon Musk’s platform, X, has introduced a new pilot program that leverages its Community Notes feature to identify content that resonates across diverse viewpoints. Announced via the official Community Notes X account, the experiment aims to surface posts that attract wide appeal—not just from like-minded users, but from people with differing perspectives.
The initiative builds upon the existing Community Notes system, which combats misinformation by publishing fact-checks only when contributors with opposing views agree on a note’s accuracy. This bridging algorithm is designed to reduce bias and manipulation often seen in traditional upvote/downvote systems.
In this latest experiment, a selected group of contributors will be notified when a post begins gaining traction. They’ll then have the opportunity to rate the post and explain why they like or dislike it. The goal is to uncover content that unites people rather than divides them.
X explained that the pilot is in its early stages and is part of a broader effort to foster more inclusive conversations on the platform. “People often feel the world is divided, yet Community Notes shows people can agree—even on contentious topics,” the platform shared. “This experimental feature seeks to highlight content that resonates widely, with a goal of building a more inclusive conversation.”

Though the Community Notes system has faced some criticism, particularly around the speed of note publication, its approach to building consensus across political or ideological lines has attracted attention. Meta has even adopted a similar model for its own content moderation efforts.
X hopes to refine the system through this trial and use the feedback to shape future updates. Ultimately, the company aims to uncover ideas and insights that reflect a shared understanding among its users.
